PAT in collaboration with the Lions Club T-Palur/Kumbakonam, Aravind Eye Hospital Madurai and District Blindness Education Society of Thanjavur conducted eye camps at Neelathanallur, Kumbakonam Taluk and Anaikarai, Thiruvidaimaruthur Taluk of Thanjavur District. The villagers were mobilized by PAT staff to the camp by disbursing notices, displaying wall posters and public announcement, and the staff were also involved in making necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of the camp. A total number of 600 villagers, 300 in each camp were provided healthcare services. Those, who are in the dire requirement of operation to prevent blindness were taken to hospital at Madurai for surgery. To and fro travel to Madurai, food and accommodation were arranged at free of cost. This is the programme for poor support-less elders. Since eye and vision related problems are common health issues among elders, PAT gives priority to Eye camps every year. PAT partnered with Lions’ club and Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai conducted eye camps this year also. In 2013, 1065 elders – both men and women attended the camp out of which 428 were surgically corrected for their cataract. In the coming years common health problems of elders are proposed to be attended and cared.
