Events | Inauguration of the Readers Club at Iluppur: Promoting the Habit of Reading Among Students

To supplement the functioning of the tuition centre in Iluppur, a Readers Club (வாசிப்பாளர் சங்கம்) was inaugurated on 16th November 2024. The primary objective of the club is to promote the habit of reading among students, thereby preparing them to become better citizens in the nation’s interest. The club’s activities will be overseen by Meghnad Readers Club, which has also donated 150 books to help launch the club. The occasion was graced by the President of PAT, Rev. Fr. Eugene, officials from the Meghnad Club, and other dignitaries. The students enrolled in the club were encouraged to read books and present their learnings through speeches.

In commemoration of the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister and architect of modern India, Children's Day was celebrated across the nation. Sweets were distributed to the children at all CDP centers, and prizes were given to the children who were regular attendees. The event was graced by the presence of PAT Secretary, Donor Mr. Vikram, PAT staff, and teachers, making it a memorable occasion for all.

In commemoration of the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister and architect of modern India, Children's Day was celebrated across the nation. The occasion was joyfully observed at the CDP - JMJ Sembattu Center, where children showcased their talents through various cultural performances, including a special tribute to renowned poet Bharathiar. Sweets were distributed to all the children, adding to the festive spirit. The event was honored by the presence of the Sisters of JMJ and the PAT staff, making it a memorable and meaningful celebration.

On November 5, 2024, PAT Secretary and Official from PAT provided 200 kg of rice to visually impaired and physically disabled individuals in Viralimalai, Pudukkottai. Twenty people received 10 kg of rice each. This commitment is fulfilled by the Trust on a monthly basis.

On 5th November, the functioning of the newly launched Evening Tuition Centre at Iluppur, Pudukkottai was reviewed. The centre has enrolled around 40 students from various classes. In addition to the curriculum subjects of Maths, Science, and English, the students are briefed on a selected topic every day to improve their general knowledge by experienced tutors.

The Deepavali celebrations were held on 30th October 2024, with all staff gathering for the occasion to exchange greetings for the festival of lights. All staff members were provided with a sweet pack. The support staff were rewarded with bonuses and dress materials.

A new Tuition and Skill Development Centre was inaugurated at St. Antony’s Church annex premises in Iluppur, Pudukkottai District, on 7th October 2024. The centre will operate in collaboration with the church. Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Eugene Thomaiyar, PAT President Mr. Stephen Francis Xavier, and other dignitaries graced the occasion. The centre will serve students from 6th to 8th standard in both academic and skill development areas.

Following this, an announcement was made regarding the tuition and resource centre to be opened and operated on the church premises, and public support was sought.

The Program Manager participated in the 53rd Annual General Body meeting of the Tamil Nadu Voluntary Health Association (TNVHA) held on 21st September 2024 at the Tamil Nadu Laity Commission, Dindigul Road, Tiruchirappalli, representing PAT. A special session on mental health was conducted by the Joint Secretary of the Health Department, and the Chief Manager of SBI clarified queries related to FCRA accounts.

Events | Eye Camp Held in T-Palur: 327 Screened, 140 Referred for Further Treatment

On August 18, 2024, an eye camp was successfully conducted in T-Palur, a collaborative effort involving Lions Club T-Palur, Aravind Eye Hospital Puducherry, Ariyalur District Disabled Persons' Welfare Board, and cosponsored by Arokiya Groceries T-Palur. A total of 327 individuals were screened for various eye-related issues during the event. Of those examined, 140 were referred for further medical treatment to address their specific conditions.

Events | Independence Day celebrations - 2024

78th Independence Day celebrations was held at all six CDP centres on August 15, 2024. At each centre, the flag hoisting was conducted by the President, a Lion’s Club Official, donors, and trustees. To commemorate the occasion, a set of uniforms was provided to the children at four of the CDP centres: MGR Nagar, Ramamoorthy Nagar, Bells Ground, and Khajapettai. At the newly inaugurated Sembattu CDP Centre, the uniforms were sponsored by the congregation of JMJ. Children and all participants of the flag hoisting ceremony were given sweets. Notebooks and writing tools were sponsored by Lions Club official at MGR Nagar and Ramamoorthy Nagar.

Ms. Kavya has secured 570/600 in the 12th Standard Public Examination held in April 2024, she is declared topper of Government HSS at Karaikurichi, Ariyalur District. She secured admission at CEG, Anna University. She has requested to provide Financial Assistance for relocation to college at Chennai. Her request was accepted and grant was provided.

The Governing Body meeting of the Board of Trustees was conducted on August 7, 2024, at ILUPPUR Farm. The trustees, along with the statutory auditor, attended the meeting. The Annual Balance Sheet for 2023-24 was presented and approved by the Board. Additionally, other relevant matters were discussed to further strengthen the welfare and development activities of the Trust.

News | Transition of CDP Center Management to PAT: New Joint Venture with JMJ

PAT assumed management of the CDP Center from the Congregation of Jesus Mary Joseph (JMJ) on August 1, 2024. The center will now operate as a joint venture between PAT and JMJ. Approximately 31 children from the underprivileged neighborhood will benefit from the program, consistent with the services provided at other CDP Centers managed by PAT.

The CDP Centre in Kemptown, Tiruchirappalli, was relaunched on June 10, 2024. The centre was officially opened by Rev. Fr. Savari Raj in the presence of the President, CDP staff, well-wishers, children, and the general public. The centre will accommodate approximately 25 children from the neighborhood, offering play-based pre-school education.

A nurse duo from General Hospital, Tiruchirappalli, was assigned to examine the children at the CDP Centre following a government order to address rising cases involving diarrhea, fever, and other health issues. Details of each child were collected and recorded, and necessary medicines were prescribed and provided. The parents shall inform about the exercise for taking appropriate actions.

An eye camp was held on June 16, 2024, at Panchayat Union Middle School in V. Kaikatti, Reddipalayam, Ariyalur District. The event was organized in collaboration with the Lions Club V. Kaikatti, Ultratech Cement Limited, Puducherry Arvind Eye Hospital, and the Ariyalur District Vision Loss Prevention Society. A total of 248 people were screened for vision deficiencies, of whom 72 were referred for eye operations.

As part of the Education Empowerment Program (EEP), evening classes have commenced across the Ariyalur District. A total of 20 centers will be operational, each with an average attendance of 30 students. This initiative is expected to benefit approximately 600 students in total.

A new Children's Development Program (CDP) Center was officially opened on June 7, 2024, in Sempattu, Tiruchirappalli. This marks the fifth center dedicated to serving the local children. The center was inaugurated by PAT Trust President Mr. Stephen Francis Xavier, in the presence of the Secretary, Trust Members, CDP Staff, PAFT Staff, and the General Public. The occasion was graced by Rev. Fr. Arokia Selvan O. Pream, Shape Trichy, who offered prayers to the Almighty, seeking blessings for this new beginning. Guests were served refreshments, and all arrangements for the event were organized by the CDP Coordinator and team.
